The Poet’s Offering

A poem spoken during Eurythmy session

by Tracey Martin, Eurythmy Group

When the poet picks up her pen
She does not know the whole poem
Her intention is to find the words
That will come together to form
A pattern and a rhythm
That enables her to speak the truth.
The poet can choose to work with time honoured structures
Or she can choose to break them.
She can choose to rhyme or not.
The only rule is that she makes her choices
Mindfully, true to the spirit of the times
And her own integrity, the truth about poetry
That she carries in her centre

Stop trying to define the end product
And agonizing when things go wrong.
Stop putting people in boxes
And wanting them to sing your song

Start listening and trust in the music
Start offering, you didn’t have to give, start being aware of the balance,
Start with your own life,
Learn how to live.

Risk everything and risk nothing,
Risk being wrong and know you are right
Acknowledge the truth of the opposite
Make use of the dark and the light.

Our intention is to create a society
Where everyone is the best they can be
Without harming each other and the earth
In spirit, in mind and in body
And this society is not built of bricks,
Like the spider we can’t see the whole,
We concentrate on balancing the tensions
And trust that the beauty will come.

If we all intend to do this
Not once, but every second of every day
With government, with communities, with people
We will create the story of change
