Building the Picture

by Chou-chou Diallo

There is a misconception that creating an image is a skill of the hands.
Drawing and painting is learning how to see.
When learning how to look better, we see more. We unveil the world around us and find what we didn’t know we know.

Another misconception of course is that we only see with our eyes.

Colour, shape, texture are vocabulary. We all speak it fluently and naturally.

The wonderful thing about this language is that there is no need to know beforehand what you are going to say. You can just surrender to what comes. When you are done, you can stand back, look at it and read, for yourself or with others.

Whether you love your image or think you messed it up, and that is the best part about it, you can transform it, build new layers, create new relationships and dynamics AND you can do this pretty much ad infinitum.

“Vor den Bildern sterben die Worte”

Translated this means something like: “words become meaningless (die) when there are images”.
